Monocoque Construction

Monocoque, French for "single shell", is the style of engineering that uses sheets of metal around bulk heads and spars to create strong, lite weight structures. Brought to us by Jerry Smyth in 2006, 1501 has used monocoque construction in every robot to date. Our goal is to spread this style of engineering so that other teams have the opportunity to try new designs and styles.

We have made a Powerpoint presentation on how to design monocoque structures for demonstrations. You can download the Powerpoint in Powerpoint or PDF formats. We have also placed a Flash version of the Powerpoint for your convenience.
